The addition of os/ds/arm/S/ap have been great for the game. At the same time it reduces the gradient of striking order. Making lances strike first instead of gaining an initiative stat would make the game more complex instead of less complex. Special rules signify weaknesses and inadequacies in the game rules. Therefore it is interessting to hear, that for TOW, they want to blend in from various edition Which of cause had also to do with the army books (less units /entries per faction (e.g the hole monsterous cav. is rather the size ot the armies, whereĪ.) less minis were usualy used and requiredī.) static combat results had more impact

ed, disagree on various matters, the said fondness and were we agree (I guess). so much of it is ultimately just taste and subjective judgements.Īlthough Davian and me (and others) who show some (to various degrees) fondness for 6th. If you think 7th core rules was a serious downgrade for 6th, I think me and you aren't gonna agree on which bits of 6th would improve t9aĪnd this is the problem. Not leaving T9A because adding the good things from 6th ed would be "almost a straight up upgrade/improvement" for the game The AB are a different story but I don't think AB has something to do with core mechanics.Īlso, I think us grognards who talk about 6th ed are more of the type of people who wants to implement the good things from 6th in T9A.

Naah, this is where you are wrong :p 7th is a serios downgrade from 6th ed. That doesn't mean I dislike 8th or T9A, I play that too, it is just a bit of personal preference. If you mean, it was the smart choice because most active people liked the 8th edition, well, I can't say anything to that, because I don't know about it, but I would have prefered it, if the T9A rules would have been closer to 7th than 8th. We played 5th edition hero hammer long into 7th editions time and I played a 7th edition game last year. And there being a new edition was no reason to not play any edition we wanted. I myself played from 5th through 8th and many in the hobby in my area did too. In my area, nobody retired when a new edition came out (they might retire at any point for various reasons, but edition change was never one of them). All of the 6th ed crowd had been in retirement for 5-10 years by 2015, while there were still thousands of active 8th ed players. While I myself have a somewhat ambivalent history with 8th ed, this was clearly the smart thing to do. It's already a way more practical game for me to actually play on work weeknights for example!). (BTW I seriously reckon for my tastes, I will actually like T9A EoW, especially with the Advanced rules when finished, moreso than T9A FB in some aspects.

Heck if you read the T9A news you'll know we even have totally FREE (barring some printing) options for people to play now too: It also might just be a great way for you to entice new players or those that don't want to play because of the need for large armies. (see the forum thread linked on my signature if you have feedback ) It's called T9A Essence of War and it's already in a good state and being developed further now and we could definitely use your help and input too

If you like playing with smaller units, smaller model counts per army, smaller width ranks still counting, less powerful units meaning a greater emphasis on flanks and CR etc, then T9A project already has a game you really might enjoy, & maybe even more to your preferences than T9A Fantasy Battles. I know I'm like a broken record in this thread, but I'm just gonna have to say it again louder since very few people seem to realise this still.
